  • Random Act of Kindness Day

If Every Single Person in the World did one Random Act of Kindness every single day, how do you think this would change the world we live in today?  Please comment.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 NIV)

    Devotion:

As I tried to catch a few more minutes of sleep, my husband leaned over and whispered that he was going to the pool. We were on a Florida vacation so going to the pool would be a normal activity for many people, just not my husband. He is not someone who "goes to the pool." Ever. The beach, maybe, but usually only when I go with him for a walk.

So, when he kissed me and headed out the hotel door alone I was curious, although not curious enough to miss a little more shut eye! As I rolled over thirty minutes later, I realized he hadn't come back yet, so I did a little snooping.

I went onto our balcony to see if I could get a glimpse of him, wondering what he might be doing. As I scanned the pool area, I caught sight of a homeless man sitting on the side of the road leading to the public beach entrance. I remembered passing him the day before as he was sleeping in the grass. Today, however, he was sitting with his legs crossed, coffee in hand, talking to someone. I leaned a little further over the edge of the balcony and my heart skipped as I realized it was my husband. The two of them were sitting on rocks, drinking cups of coffee, engaged in conversation.

I watched them from a distance for about twenty minutes until they parted ways.  My husband looked so comfortable talking to this man. They were laughing, smiling and having a nice time. I learned he offered to do the guy's laundry, and then sent him on his way with a little cash.

I had to pause a moment and ask myself if I would have been gutsy enough to do the same.  Would I approach a complete stranger just to sit and talk? Would I offer someone hungry a coffee and a breakfast bar as my husband did?

As I pondered their encounter I thought about the kind of man my husband is. You see, he's not the type to get up early and read his Bible every single day, and he's not on any committees at church. What you will see him do though, is talk to homeless men, give money to needy strangers, and be kind to people. You know, "be Jesus" to others.

I believe God asks each one of us to step out and "be Jesus." Sometimes, though, we get so consumed with everyday life we just don't do it, or we say we'll do it later because we don't have time now.

I also believe that God doesn't ask us to do anything that He hasn't already prepared us for. You see, my husband was homeless as a teenager. He was forced to live on his own from the time he was 15 years old. He learned to find shelter in snowdrifts, basements, and abandoned cars.  He has a heart for the unlovely, the runaways, and those whose clothes aren't so clean.

We each have gifts, talents and past experiences that allow us to reach out and touch others in ways that will be meaningful to them. It often doesn't cost us more than a cup of coffee to do so. What experiences or passions do you have that would make you a perfect candidate to reach out to someone today?

Dear God, open my eyes to the people around me so I can make a difference to someone else. I know the circumstances of my life are not left in vain when I offer myself to You and Your service. Provide a way for me to "be Jesus" to someone today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

  • I'm A Good Person...Why Do I Need Jesus?

I recently attended a Women's Conference where Candice Cameron Bure' was one of the Speakers.  I've never heard her speak before until then.  I must say that I was very impressed with what she had to say!  She, like many others in this world, had accepted Christ into her life, as a child, at the age of 12 yrs old.  But there was really no commitment to Him, until she became an adult.  But even as a young adult in her early 20's; as a wife and mother, she still struggled with "why" she needed to "live for Christ".

Candice's belief, like many of us, was that she was a "good" person, so why did she "need" Jesus, anyway?  As long as she lived a good life, and was a good mom; a good wife; and etc., she didn't need Him in her life.  She had already accepted Him when she was a young girl, so what more did she really have to do?  Did she really have more to do to get into heaven?  Or was accepting Him at the age of 12, and just being a good person, enough?

Her brother, as some of you may know, is Kirk Cameron.  He and Ray Comfort work together on The Way of the Master.  Kirk was also on Family Ties, when he was a young kid.  Candice was on Full House from the age of 8 to 18 yrs old.

Kirk was the one who had taken a more serious walk with the Lord.  He offered Candice a book to read one day, that explained to her the importance of having a "real" relationship with Jesus, versus just being a good person, and "hoping" to get into heaven.  As Candice began to read this book, one thing stuck out to her that she read.  The Ten Commandments.

As she explained at this conference, the Ten Commandments are God's "rules" for us to live by.  As Christians, we should be taking these commandments seriously.  And as she read the Ten Commandments over again, it dawned on her that even if she had only broken one of the commandments, that was as serious as breaking them all, to God.  Let's take just one commandment as an example:  Thou Shalt Not Lie.

Have you ever told a lie?  Even a little one?  Or how about a white-lie?  You know, the ones that really don't count.  Or do they all count?  What about the lie you tell when you don't feel like going into work, so you call in sick?  Or what about when you've gone shopping and you've spent more money than you were supposed to, and you tell your spouse that you didn't spend that much?  Or how about when you make up an excuse as to why your child was not in school today; or why they hadn't completed their homework?  Or what about when your wife was away for a few hours, and you decide to go see what you can "find" on the Internet, and when she returns and asks what you've been doing, and you reply, "Nothing"?  Or how about that flirtatious co-worker that you tell your wife or husband "there's nothing to it"????

Sometimes when we lie, we can make up so many excuses for our behavior!  We justify why we lie.  We make excuses why it's okay.  When in actuality, it is not okay!  It is a commandment that you have broken.  It's a sin.  Sin is sin, no matter which commandment you have broken.  When you've broken one, it's like you've broken them all.

God wants a RELATIONSHIP with us.  He wants us to abide by His commandments, also, inside that relationship.  He wants us to get serious about our relationship with Him.  Not just lukewarm.  He says "if you are lukewarm, I will spit you from my mouth".  He wants all or nothing.....no in-between!

    Ask yourself these questions:

    1.  Do you ever look at something your neighbor just purchased and then went out and bought the same thing (or very similar) to keep up with them?
    2.  Have you ever looked at the opposite sex and had an impure thought about him / her?
    3.  Have you ever dishonored your parents?
    4.  Have you ever horded money away in fear that you would lose it?
    5.  Have you ever really given God your whole heart?  Or are you just toying with Him?
    6.  Have you ever really taken the time to just sit and talk to Him about whatever is in your heart?  He knows you inside and out; so what are you waiting for?

I believe God gave these commandments to us for a reason.  I believe they are instructions for us to live by, just as Candice explained at this Women's Conference.  As she explained that just being a good person, wasn't enough, I began to really look into my own heart, and ask if I had really gotten serious with God.  I had to ask myself if I had truly given Him my all.  Or was I just lukewarm?  And if I was lukewarm, what was I waiting for?  What was keeping me from giving Him my ALL?  Wouldn't these things be considered idols in my life, if I were putting them before Him?

I made a commitment to Him that day, to take Him more seriously, and to give Him my ALL.  How about you?

Do YOU think just being a good person is enough to get you into heaven?  Or do you feel that there is more to it than that?  I'd love to hear your comments.

  • Southwestern Chicken Soup

Today, as I was pulling ingredients for what was supposed to be Chicken Soup, I realized that I had other ingredients that could possibly make a pretty good soup!  I had no idea what it was going to taste like, but I have to admit, it came out pretty good!!  I'm simply calling it Southwestern Chicken Soup!! I hope you like it, too!!

1 Can of Diced Rotel Tomatoes
1 Can of Red Kidney Beans
1 Can of Northern White Beans
    1 Can of Pinto Beans
1 can of Whole Kernel Corn
    1 pkg of Taco Seasoning
1 pkg of Ranch Dressing Mix
3 Cups of Cooked-Shredded Boneless Chicken Breasts
    2 cups of Chicken Broth
    Sour Cream

Do not drain any of the canned goods before putting into crock pot.  Boil Chicken until done; drain and shred. (save 2 cups of broth). Mix all ingredients together and put in 3-quart Slow Cooker and cook on high for 2 hours; or low for 3-4 hours.   Top with a dollop of Sour Cream.

I also made Chicken Salad Wraps to serve with this soup! It was really yummy!!!

Tomorrow night, since I have my Women's Bible Study, we are going to just have Hamburgers, with Pork and Beans, and a Tossed Salad.  Nothing fancy!  No time for anything else.  But Look Out Thursday Night!!! We are having the most amazing Chicken Pot Pie, from a recipe that I discovered last week!!!  It is YUMMY!!!!   Can't wait to have it again!!! :)

Plus I will be making a Fruit Topped Cheesecake, as well!  Here is the recipe!

    2 pkgs Graham Crackers
    2 sticks butter
    1/4 cup sugar
2 - 8 oz pkg of softened cream cheese
    2 cups powdered sugar
    1 cup heavy whipping cream
    1 tsp vanilla
    Fresh raspberries; blueberries or strawberries

In a gallon-sized ziploc bag, crush graham crackers with a rolling pin. Melt butter in a small saucepan. Pour crushed graham crackers, melted butter and sugar into a 9x13-inch pan. Stir ingredients together and pat it down to create a crust. Set aside.

In a medium sized bowl, stir together cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. In a large bowl, whip the cream until soft peaks form. Add cream cheese mixture to whipped cream and fold in gently. Smooth mixture over the crust. Chill for at least 2 hours. Cut cheesecake into 16 pieces. Serve each square topped with fruit of choice!

Oh My Goodness, doesn't this look YUMMY????!!!!  I can't wait to try it!

This weather really has me in the cooking / baking mood!  It's been so nice and COOL!  I LOVE this time of year!  It's supposed to be a tad bit warmer tomorrow, but back down to the 50's again towards the end of the week!  Yea!!

Okay, well that's all I have for tonight!  I hope you had a fantastic day!!!

    God Bless,
    C

  • It's Time....

I decided today it was time to do something about my weight, and my health.  I enrolled in a Pilates Class to help me lose some weight (Okay, a LOT of weight) and I also called my GYN and made an appointment with her for an annual check-up that I haven't done in almost 6 years!  Guess I'm a little overdue on that one, huh???

I'm trying a new GYN this visit.  The last one didn't set too well with me because he speaks very loudly, and you can hear him in the next room.  I don't know about you, but I want my visits to be private!!  I don't want the whole office knowing what is going on with my health!  So I'm trying one of the female doctors this time.  I hope she's good. She's a fairly new doctor; just graduated in 2002.  I've heard her name before, in this area, but just can't remember what I've heard about her; whether good or bad.  I'm sure if it was bad, I would have remembered.  Sad...huh?  We remember the bad that we hear, but most times, not the good!  What's up with that???

The weather has been chilly today; but I love it!!  This time of year is great for making me get into the baking / soup mode!!!  I love to smell the aroma of homemade bread baking, or a pot of Chili cooking on the stove when it's cold outside!  The only thing I don't like about this time of year, is that it is a reminder that winter is just around the corner!

Now, don't get me wrong....I like winter.  (Notice I did not say that I love winter???).....I like to see the first snowfall, but I sure don't like driving in the stuff!!  That is not fun to me, at all!  Plus, I can't stand to be COLD!!!  It hurts my bones!  The older I get the more I don't like being cold!  But, it is coming upon us, a lot sooner than we think!!

I was going to make Mostacolli for dinner tonight, but decided to eat leftover Pork Chops and Potatoes, instead.  No sense in letting it go bad.  So I finished it off just a while ago.  It was just as good as it was yesterday!!  I love Pork Chops!!!

Okay, so now, back to the Pilates Class.  I've never done Pilates before, but I have heard that it is very good for your stomach and lower back; hips and thighs.  Is this right?  I hope so, because those are all my problem areas.  It was $48 for a six-week class.  It will be Monday mornings from 845 to 935AM.  I hope I do good with it!!  I'm going to TRY to start losing some weight AGAIN!!  I hate trying to lose weight!  I do real good for a while, then slip back into my lazy mode again!  I wish I could just stay disciplined and do it right this time!!!  I am reminded of the scripture "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".  Guess I had better start saying that every day, huh??? :)

I finally got our monthly CMA Chapter newsletter finished today.  I will mail and email it off on Thursday.  Lots of news in this one!  I love doing it, but it can be truly time consuming!  I'm glad it's finished for this month!!! :)

Oh yea, I gained a new cleaning customer again today.  She contacted me off of my website!  Yea, it's working!!!  I'm so glad!  I will start her on Oct 12th.  She will be every other week.   That's a good thing; that fills up my Monday's now!  I only have two more slots open, but I may keep them open just in case I need to move someone around.  I always keep my Friday's open.  That is my one day a week to run my errands; and do stuff for my own family.  OR if we want to go somewhere for a 3 day weekend, we can!  I like that!!

Better scoot for now.  I've been on here enough today.  Time to go check the clothes in the dryer and switch the ones in the washer to the dryer.  I lead such an exciting life!!! LOL

    C Ya'!

  • Candace Cameron Bure

    PLEASE PRAY FOR MY AUNT:

A few days ago, my elderly Aunt fell, and hurt her knee and hip. Bad enough that she is the age she is, to have this happen; BUT....she's also had a hip and knee replacement as well.

Family took her to their small-town local hospital, who in turn said she was okay, "nothing wrong" and told her to stop acting like a baby!! Kept her there for a couple of days anyway...but sent her home two days ago.

The local hospital also refused to send her to a bigger city hospital, saying "there isn't an emergency"!

So, she goes home, in MUCH pain; can't put any weight on that leg at all; and finally today, they had to take her to the larger hospital. After further Xrays, these doctors find out that the knee replacement is broken; and she has fractured her femur!! Can you just imagine the amount of pain she was in???!!!

Now they are talking about doing surgery on her this coming week to fix the knee replacement! This small-town local hospital better lay low cuz I know of one family that will be coming to see them....real soon!!!

    _________

Today, I attended a Extraordinary Women's Conference. It was a simulcast held at our little church. IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD!!!!

Candace Cameron Bure, Nancy Lee DeMoss, Karen Kingsbury, Amy Grant, and more, just to name a few!!! I've never heard Candace speak before, but let me tell you one thing....she is definitely not the little girl, DJ Tanner, anymore!!! She is an AWESOME speaker!! Very motivating and encouraging, and inspiring!! Gets right to the core of what it means to really walk in an upright and right-standing relationship with God! Wow!! No punches! Just right to the core!  (For those of you who don't know this:  Candace is Kirk Cameron's sister (The Way of the Master).  Many women did not know that in church today!

Nancy Lee DeMoss....another very good speaker and subject! Getting REAL with others and God! Man, that one made me cry! It hit home, Big time! Made me take a much more serious look at where I am in my Christian walk and my relationship with others!  Dynamite Speaker!!

Anita Renfroe was also there, and hilarious, as usual!!! She just floors me! I LOVE her sense of humor!!! Her song to Faith Hill's song "Breathe" is just hilarious! And so many more!!  Oh, and by the way, Faith Hill used to babysit Anita's two boys when they were smaller.  The boys think it's quite funny that they can say that Faith Hill has seen their naked butt's!!! LOL LOL

I left with a HAPPY HEART today!! I met some new friends; hooked up with some old ones; and had a genuinely GREAT day!! I'm so glad I went!

    _______

I got home and talked with hubby for a bit before he had to leave for work; then made me some Pizza Rolls for dinner; and watched a movie "He's Not That Into You" with Drew Berrymore. Good movie! CUTE, but definitely a chick-flick! Welll, guys could actually learn something from this movie, as well!! :)

    _______

Tomorrow is an early day at Church.  Will make Pork Chops, Mashed Potatoes w/ Gravy and Green Beans for dinner!!  I guess I'd better get off of here. It's been a GREAT Day!!! Thank you Lord!
